FROM your CHAIRMAN

Hälsningar!

Nobel-Monitor Lodge No.130 WELCOMES YOU to our new website.  It is a momentous occasion to be able to reach out to our community with this wonderful technology.

Thank you to District Lodge Pennsylvania No.9 for the financial assistance to make this website possible.  In so many fraternal and social organizations, membership and participation are down.  It is encouraging for us to know that our District Lodge believes in our mission – to support and encourage Scandinavian culture – and is willing to give back to its members with their financial support.

We sincerely hope you find some fun, inspiration, and camaraderie in Nobel-Monitor Lodge No.130 activities through this website.  We will strive to make this informational and interesting, whether it is about Viking lore, Scandinavian traditions, particularly, Midsommar or Lucia, or eating ärtsoppa or potatiskorv.  If there is something that you would like featured in our monthly newsletter or a program you would like to see, please let us know through Contact Us.

In Truth and Unity!

Marianne Gotrich

Chairman, Nobel Monitor Lodge #130

JESSICA MEIR, SWEDISH AMERICAN OF THE YEAR

In 2020 NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir was honored for two prominent awards in Sweden: Swedish American of the Year by the Vasa Order of America and Honorary Doctor of Technology by the Luleå Technical University. Both of these awards were handed over to Jessica Meir in Luleå, situated in Northern Sweden, in November 2021.

In connection with a banquet for the honorary doctors, Jessica Meir was honored both by the Vasa Order of America and the university. About 300 hundred guests applauded her when the Vasa Order of America representative Catherine Bringselius Nilsson shared some words with Jessica Meir while handing over the insignia of the Award: a golden plaque and a diploma. Vasa Order representative Göran Nilsson presented her with greetings from the Swedish King Carl Gustaf and the Ambassador of the Swedish US Embassy.

The day before Jessica Meir gave a lecture about her journey, going from a 5-year old child dreaming of becoming an astronaut until she fulfilled her dream by hard work and dedication. You are welcome to listen to her lecture by this YouTube link

VOLVO MUSEUM,  GOTHENBURG

Member Arne Dunhem of our sister Lodge in Washington, D.C., Drott Lodge visited the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg in August 2022.

There are about 100 exhibits of various Volvo's on display – which one is your favorite?

If you also visit it, you will probably find your favorite Volvo model among Volvo’s passenger cars but there is so much more to show you. They have trucks, buses, construction equipment, industry- and marine engines and even aircraft engines. Colors and design, technology and history – all in a mixture that will trigger memories and feelings among our visitors.

Enjoy some pictures here from the museum!

Join Us For Fun-filled Events Together With Our Sister Lodges In Our Vasa District, PA #9

Why not visit our two sister Lodges within Pennsylvania District #9? The two other lodges are Svea #296 in Erie, PA and Drott-Lodge #168 in Washington, D.C. Check out their websites to find out what they are doing.

We plan to have some joint activities together with members of the other two lodges to include some fun events in their areas and we will travel there to spend a day or weekend with them.  We can, to the extent possible, arrange car pooling.

More information about these events later.

WHAT IS WILD APRICOT?

Wild Apricot is web-based software that automates and simplifies the management of the membership of an association like our Lodge and its website.

Wild Apricot consists of several modules that work together:

  • membership management
  • website design and updates
  • event registration, both free as well as paid for -  still working on this
  • online payments - still working on this
  • emails, e.g. Newsletters
  • members directory
  • donations

The Wild Apricot account can be accessed from anywhere with a browser and an Internet connection. If there are volunteers and board members working from home or from different locations, they can all access the same data at the same time without updating and emailing membership lists back and forth.

Through our Nobel Monitor Lodge's Wild Apricot website, the members can access member-only pages, and perform self-service functions such as updating their membership profile, renewing membership, and paying membership dues (coming) online.

Information can be stored in the Nobel Monitor database within Wild Apricot about other kinds of contacts other than members, such as donors or event attendees. Contacts can be added to the database through online forms, manually by administrators, and in bulk by importing. The contact database can also be customized – and the forms that appear on our Svea Wild Apricot website – by adding, modifying, reordering, and deleting database fields.
